Re: Character idea brainstorming.
Er, it was the eating of his father that snapped him out of it and got him turned into the prey at the end. Which is fine, but how was his father the one that found him and put him through therapy? Two dads? That'd be fine, just so long as there is a distinction.

Re: Character idea brainstorming.
Sorry for being so vague. I was tired. The man he ate in the hedge had his father's scent and that is indeed what snapped him out of his bestial state of mind. However, he was then found and cared for by his dear old dad back in the real world. This understandably messed with his mind, since he was convinced he had killed and eaten him. I'm planning to explore in Glimpses how Kyle notices odd behavior and strange coincidences after his return that leads him to think that his father is indeed dead and has been replaced by something that looks like him after a friend of his in the summer court(or perhaps a motley mate) explains about fetches. He then learns from his father that someone stole his jacket while he was in the woods that day(still working on this point), so that is why the man he ate had his father's scent. But maybe the fetch is just lying to save his own ass. Kyle is super paranoid since his return, so he can't be sure what is real and what he made up in his own mind. Is his father dead or alive? Is it really him or a fetch? Did Kyle kill him already, or is he about to? These questions and more will be answered next week on As The Chalice Turns.

History
Sylus was born in Seattle by the name of William Peterson. At a young age William found a passion for poetry and eventually in the occult, a fascination and draw that would find him trouble. Near the end of high school William was exploring local occult and pagan groups while practicing his poetry throughout town. He attended University of Washington and by the time he was 20 had found a group of thaumaturges (or wanna be’s) who he called his own. When William was 22 he made the mistake of at an open mic night mixing his poetry with incantations and coded mysteries of the occult, sadly for him his Keeper heard him in the Hedge. Stepping through the backstage door to get a smoke outside, William found himself before a Woman who wanted nothing more than an autograph, he had moved her so. William with no stranger to pride was happy too and sealed his fate.
Durance
Sylus’s Keeper Queen Of Cracked Reflection had taken Sylus as her own voice. He spent his days crafting beautiful, strange and terrible realities. His words build worlds and turned mortals to dust. They delighted and entertained, the shaped and shifted all that it touched. Sylus recalls nothing of the time that passed within his oral cage. In truth there was a part of Sylus that could have spent eternity there, soaking in the splendor of such power. It, however, was the searing pains of failure, when she tore him and spat him apart at his failures, or the nagging feeling that he was under appreciated. Who was she without this golden voice? and what was this searing pain, distant like a forgotten memory that burned around him late at night?
Escape
Overtime Sylus resentment allowed his mind to return to his own. Slowly he learned the words to bind and create as if they were his own and extension of himself. He bid his time, singing song and weaving tales to delight his Queen. In the end he spun a tale capturing her (Only briefly) and setting him free.
He sought out his body, which had been spun out, stretched and peeled, his flesh that of parchment, used by his queen's goblin scribes. Casting them aside, he...her voice commanded them aside before through his will he spun his body into a semblance of humanity, and through it, he sat him self within his old mouth. Confused, clumsy, Sylus pulled himself from the hedge.
Returning to the mortal world was hard on Sylus, he felt disempowered, weak, not solidly here. For some time he took his place in the Winter court, as he refound his physical strength and his voice. However, he noticed patterns in the world, like those he formed so many times before and with these stories and patterns he refound his strength. Slyus now is a member of the Autumn court, and a bit of a renowned sorcerer, known for his tale crafting and Faerie Magick, he is both needed and feared by many.
Personality:
Sylus is unsettling and menacing in his presence. He moves with grace like that of a snake and his eyes have a way to make eye contact in the most poignant of moments. He speaks softly forcing those around to listen. Despite his unnerving presence there is a pull to Sylus, a magnetism that to some is comforting but any long examination would find it off putting.

[spoiler="Character Sheet"]
Basically, the mechanic-vs-narrative hiccup I'm having with the character is I'm rather in love with the idea of a giant gob full of teeth that is so absurd not even being a Changeling makes it work in the real world, and playing with the drawbacks thereof. Whisperwisp gives a wonderfully creepy crutch that means I didn't just force everyone to spend XP on sign language, or just ignore me... But the way I read the blessing it's one-glamour-one-message, which in this case would be crazy. Since I'm pretty much playing the flaw and the kith to be, pardon the pun, weird for wyrd's sake, rather than playing either particularly straight... What are the odds of you humouring this in some fashion?

- Mask & Mien:
- Molly is a Seven-and-a-half-foot tall albino of entirely ambiguous age. Everything about her is long, bony and rapier thin. A rictus grin runs almost from ear to ear made up of teeth that are one part Cheshire Cat to two parts Shark, the largest of which measure in inches. Along with her large, glassy, eyes, red from corner to corner, this makes for almost complete expression paralysis.
There is only so much the Mask can do to hide such a visage. To mortal eyes she remains improbably tall, uncomfortably thin, and inescabably albino. The Rictus-locked face, while normalised also remains a permanent feature; made all the more unsettling by her presenting as functionally mute.
- Background:
- Pre-Durance: Nothing special. Local girl. 90’s kid. Kinda unpopular. Little bit dorky. Grew up, waited tables to help pay her way through college. Nothing special. No tragic backstory or childhood trauma to speed her into the lands of the Fae. Poor kid just fell asleep on the wrong train.
Durance: One gloomy October weekend, she hopped on a train to visit a College buddy out of town. Dozing off to the soporific effect of rumbling track and rolling landscape, her dreams were punctuated by flashes of twisted brambles, thorns and leaves that snagged and tore at her, even in the safety of the imaginary carriage.
When she awoke, it was clearly The End Of The Line. But it was far from the terminus she had expected to see. Not even the most run down, disreputable subway station on Earth could compare. Out of the gloom, an impossibly thin ‘man’ loomed, apoplectic with fury. Bending almost double to bellow in her face in a language she couldn’t begin to understand, spraying her with spittle that stung as it clung to her skin.
Unmoved by her tears and begging, the apparition flung her, bodily from the carriage to be scraped and dragged along the hairline gap between carriage and tunnel wall as the train began its return journey. So began her sojourn in the realm of The Chief Executive Officer Of The Stygian Subway Corporation; a cramped, archaic hell where the only light at the end of the tunnel was, quite literally, an oncoming train.
Through barter, theft and consumption, she slowly scaled the anarchic, Darwinian hierarchy that existed among the vermin that dwelt within the tunnels. Enduring each pain-wracked change that twisted her from that terrified young woman to the monster she needed to be; a lithe predator, capable of crossing any gap, spanning any ceiling, worming herself into the tiniest crevice or duct to avoid the passing of the ever-present smoke-belching engines of destruction. Vital survival traits in an environment where millimetres could make the difference between life, and crippling injury that, inevitably, led to death.
The impetus for this ascension, was the calculated decision to change from subsistence – living on whatever dross and cast-offs she could find without becoming prey herself - to actively preying on the competition. Tricking, trapping, terrifying, and ultimately murdering her way to the top; until the fanged demon that whispered in the dark was superseded amongst the terrors of the labyrinth only by the Fae overlords, and the machines they conveyed themselves in.
Jealous of this upstart, the Fae Lord of that place cast her from his domain, as carelessly and arbitrarily as he had trapped her there to begin with.
Post-Durance:
Adjusting to life-after-Arcadia is difficult for even the most functional Lost. For an improbably tall albino, no longer able to move her jaw around her impossibly large teeth sufficiently to form comprehensible words, never mind eat solid food, things did not get better for a long, long time.
Personality:
At heart, Molly is still the lonely, unpopular, slightly dorky introvert she always was. Her experiences in Arcadia have simply left those personality traits a little... tarnished. Bent. Honed to new and unpleasant edges. Her Autumn mantle probably says more about the soul that lies behind that almost perfect poker-face than it does about any political affiliation.
Basically, the mechanic-vs-narrative hiccup I'm having with the character is I'm rather in love with the idea of a giant gob full of teeth that is so absurd not even being a Changeling makes it work in the real world, and playing with the drawbacks thereof. I'm thrilled to see Molly again! I always loved her Durance.

Re: Character idea brainstorming.
Ok you are correct on the cost of whisperwisp (as I'm sure you knew, just chiming in).
For your contracts, did you mean contracts of darkness or shade and spirit? I can't find a contracts of shadow anywhere.
For the ASL, that's a nice way to go about it. For those who don't have have the merit don't forget you can just text them, or use a text-to-speech program. If you're broke, google translate actually does this for free. It's not *perfect* but it beats waving your arms around at someone who has no idea what you're saying when you run out of glamour.
Except you *are* broke....>.>
Well, a thing that is.

Re: Character idea brainstorming.
Cheers MavIM, I'm pretty ridiculously pleased with it myself.
Trick will be living up to it in live play
Yeah... I didn't want to be correct. Lots of other pay-glamour blessings at least last like... a scene or something. But it is a two-fer blessing as well, so there's that. Kinda coming around to the idea of playing it straight anyway... will be an experience at least!
I meant Darkness... no idea how I goofed that one, since most of the character generation involved making a list of literally everything I wanted straight from the book onto a wordpad file, then paring it down to what I could afford and fit the character best...
Also, just realised I jammed Striking Looks in there, when clearly being an attractive flirt isn't really on the cards. Holdover from EoD logic I think... I wonder why they never printed an equivalent version for Intimidation checks and their ilk...

Asking for everyones on this not just Greebs. It's so everyone can take one final look and I can ask and offer a couple last suggestions if needed. I'll then be moving them to their new home in the character forum.

Re: Character idea brainstorming.
Since I had to use a cropped version for the Avatar picture, I thought I'd share the full version here.
I was coming up blank on my trawlings of the murky depths of Google and Deviantart for suitable images... so I went deeper.
I went and asked 4chan.
And some glorious bastard drew me this.
Now to be honest, the mouth is still a little bit understated, but I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth!
