Extras and side characters.
So I came up with this idea for a shorthand method for extras. This does not pertain to major npcs both for and against you guys. It's just for those low end guys that are important enough to have a name, but are otherwise relatively scrub level. The idea is that you can use this so you can make pertinent rolls for them in scenes if you are doing glimpses, or to give me an idea on what sort of extra you think this person is.
So creation is simple, after the basic name for them they would have a tiny stat sheet. For attributes you pick one that they are good with. Skills you'd select 3, with one specialty. Merits are slightly more vague; they get 3 selections. Each point can actually be up to 2 points for selecting larger merits or fleshing out certain backgrounds. If they are changelings you can select 3 dots in contracts.
Monkey was intrigued by the idea, wanted to see what others think.

Re: Extras and side characters.
So I like this concept and I'm taking it for a test run!
Everybody... meet Denny.
Everybody... meet Denny.
- Denny:
- Ramona loves Denny like a brother. They weren’t exactly motley-mates, but they were close. Ran in the same circles, had the same friends, a lot of similar interests. They’re in the same SCA mercenary house. Denny is deadly in a way Ramona wishes to one day be. A man-at-arms with a strong Summer mantle, he’d lead many patrols and fought in many skirmishes, the brushfire battles that the Freehold thought was a “war” before Harry Heart came. Denny’s a true warrior.
After the catastrophe, Ramona was heartened to learn that Denny was among the survivors. Until he left. Broke away from the Freehold with a band of like-minded individuals. They took… things with them. Tokens, supplies, weapons, equipment… many of them, things Ramona had made or maintained personally, with her mark of craftsmanship upon them. Ramona is convinced that Denny is simply misguided. Maybe he thinks he has a better chance of striking back operating independently? Or maybe he’s let fear take ahold of him and drown out his wrath? She can’t believe the worst of him… she doesn’t want to.
Denny and Ramona had a strong sense of kinship, she has to believe that it’s still real. But then, why did he abandon the Freehold, and her along with it? She can’t even imagine him stealing, like he did. It must’ve been the people he threw in with. It must’ve been. This is all just some big mistake. Denny will come to his senses eventually. He’ll come back, just as strong and vigorous in defense of the Freehold as ever. He’ll come back.
He has to.

Re: Extras and side characters.
And now, another one! Say hello to Padma... just don't take it personally if she doesn't say hi back.
- Padma:
- In the most militant of the Seasonal Courts, calling Padma a ‘strong fighter’ might be a stretch. Still, in the court where just about everyone knows how to fight, Padma’s good enough to be something like ‘regular infantry’ rather than ‘non-combatant’ or ‘reserve.’ Good enough to come back from patrols and skirmishes with daring lies about slaying dozens of goblins, or carrying the tusks or fangs or claws of some hedge beast. About on par with Ramona, which is one reason why they’re friends.
After the catastrophe, nobody saw Padma for a while. Long enough to assume she was dead. Until somebody mentioned that they’d seen her, living in a bad part of town. Heartened at any news of survivors, Ramona went out to see her. What she found… well, frankly, it’s depressing as fuck.
When Changelings go to war, not all the wounds are physical, and not all the casualties are dead. There are things that Harry Heart and his minions did that just defy the rational brain, dark and cruel and twisted things the mind struggles against. And Changeling minds are already pliable. Whatever happened to her in that last battle, Padma has had some kind of significant breach of Clarity.
Padma’s in her head more than she’s in the real world, and she’s fallen on hard times as a result. Living mostly on the street it seems like, maybe doing drugs. She sees most attempts to help her as some kind of trap or attack, hardly ever goes near Freehold holdings lately. Ramona brings her a few bags of groceries every so often, and tries to just be there for her. But it hurts Ramona too, to see a friend this way. To be dealing with a living casualty of Harry Heart.

Re: Extras and side characters.
We've all been there at one time or another.
Rent's past due and bills are piling up. There's no food in the fridge and credit cards are maxed out. The holidays are coming up and the car started making a funny noise. Next week's paycheck just isn't gonna cut it and you're starting to get an ulcer just trying to make ends meet. Times are tough and money's tight.
Old Nick knows it can happen to anyone. In fact, he's counting on it.

- Old Nick:
- Poor Old Nick looks like he could be the love child of Estelle Getty and Yoda. Although he insists his nickname is a reference to "Old St. Nick", there are some who remember that it is also a bygone name for the devil. However, most people probably assume it's because he's... well, just really old... and his name's Nick.
The wizened old geezer seems to live at his pawnshop on Aurora Avenue in the artsy Greenwood neighborhood, which he still refers to as "Woodland" even though the name of the area was officially changed over 100 years ago. The cantankerous old fart is actually a shrewd businessman with a reputation for driving a hard bargain. He is also rumored to have a real knack for digging up all kinds of surprising information about the merchandise brought into his shop. Freeholders come see Nick when they're low on cash, since unlike most pawnbrokers, he actually does accept favors, promises, and IOUs, in addition to a wide assortment of merchandise that appears fairly worthless to mortal eyes. Even though Old Nick does provide a valuable service to the changelings of Seattle, you would still be hard pressed to find even one who felt like they ever got a bargain.
